About the Exhibition
🖤 BLACK NEW YORK🖤
This is not a history lesson, not a retrospective. This is a poem—layered, emotional, and alive. It is a chorus of Black voices creating through joy, memory, grief, resistance, and imagination. In subtractive color theory, black is the culmination of all color. So too is Black New York—not absence but accumulation. It is a body of work that reflects the complexity and beauty of the diaspora in the city that shapes us all.
Featuring works by Shasekh Augustin, Jenna Arvelo, Maya Beverly, SantanaCopeland, Nyzere Dillon, Laura Gayle, Nicole Goodwin, Garry Grant, Kahdeem Jefferson, Leah King, Ayanna Legros, Emily Manwaring, Alexis Mendoza, Aala Oni, Iris Phenix, John Ricard, Haley Sessoms, Alisa Sikelianos-Carter, Christina M. Tapper, Atiim Turnbull, Michael Young, and Zawadi.
